K2 - 8,611 meters (28,251 ft)

About K2 – 8,611 meters (28,251 ft)

K2 is the second highest mountain in the world, located on the border between Pakistan and China in the Karakoram mountain range. It has an elevation of 8,611 meters (28,251 feet) and is known for its technical difficulty and the extreme weather conditions that climbers face while attempting to summit it. The first successful ascent of K2 was achieved in 1954 by an Italian expedition led by Ardito Desio. Since then, around 300 people have successfully reached the summit, while over 80 have lost their lives attempting to do so. K2 is considered by many to be one of the most challenging climbs in the world, with a high fatality rate for those who attempt it. It is part of a remote and largely unpopulated region of the Himalayas, and its isolation adds to its mystique and allure for mountaineers and adventurers. Despite its challenges, K2 continues to attract climbers from around the world who are drawn to its reputation as one of the world's most difficult and rewarding climbs.
